Customer Journey: User Story Map

As my project is targetted toward families and kids, I thought to take inspiration/quotes from the book, "We're going on a bear hunt" to create a User Story Map. The book is about a family going on an adventure and the steps they take towards it, so I thought it would be appropriate to create this map in a similar fashion by retelling the User Journey in a simple, memorable way. Easy for both kids and parents to understand and relate with.

Story Board

Who

Jonathan is married with two kids and is looking for places to go camping with his family.

When

Likes to go camping as often as possible but mainly during the school holidays.

Observations/Facts

While searching for places he finds it hard to assess how the campsites are like as details are quite limited particularly with showers, amenities and camping spots.

What

The places he is looking for are mainly at national parks, close to the beach with decent amenities and ideally warm showers.

How

He uses facebook groups, national park websites and google maps and reviews to try and find a place.

Where

The places he is looking for would be about 3-4 hours drive from home.

Opportunities/Ideas

If there was a way to develop campsite maps and explain details of amenities either with photos, descriptions or review, this could assist to making decisions on where to go camping. If users can contribute to the app in a way that will help other families make decisions, this could make the app appealing.

Design Elements

UX_UI Elevate Course - Frame 1.jpg

The image I chose to pick colours from looked synonymous for a typical family campsite to me.

I'm looking to aim towards a playful family friendly feel.

As such I want to use bright colours to keep it fresh, light and approachable for all ages.

I chose the orange from the tent as my accent colour then went for split complementary colours based off the accent colour.

The green to be the Primary tones to represent the trees. Then the Blue/Teal as Secondary tones for the skies. I have a fourth beige/green tone taken from a Square Colour Harmony, which I may use as an alternative for white.

Conclusion

Despite multiple apps that are currently available, most users from surveys conducted mainly used Google and websites.

Camping is pretty broad and due to the nature of the activity it can be quite basic as such details of the sites can be hard to come by.

What I took away from my research is that campers were mainly looking for features such as amenities and site maps. As such these were two features I wanted to bring out more in isolation compare to other sites.

With greater resources and the benefit of more time, I would have also liked to make the aesthetics of my CAMPR app to have a more family-friendly feel with the use of custom illustrations and playful/abstract colours and shapes.
