Last month I made my first visit to Bali. Based in Seminyak, this was more of a relaxing holiday with the fam. I didn't get to do too much adventuring so to speak. Mainly lot's of time relaxing by the pool with small trips out to eat and see what was out there whilst taking care of our two young ones.
With that, I did get some opportunities to take some pics from some of the places we visited. Travelling light, I left my Canon DSLR behind and shot with my Sony Compact camera. Perfect pocket size camera while carrying a baby and managing a preschooler.
From a technical point, I had normally shot in JPG with this camera due to its wireless connectivity to my phone for quick online sharing. But I thought, this time around to make a more concerted effort and shoot in RAW and then edit in Capture One. This was a good test shooting inconspicuously on location and pushing it to the limits. Yeah, there was that extra step in the editing process and it's not as instant, but from a photography point, it paid off as I was pleasantly surprised with the results. The amount of detail I was able to obtain and bring out from this "pocket rocket" was pretty amazing, even under low light conditions and when heavily cropped in.
So all in all, the weather was perfect, the food was great and the time was well spent. Keen to go back again to explore more of what this beautiful place has to offer. Maybe even meet some more little friends that hop into our room :)
